Office Soundproofing

Office Soundproofing Sound Quality...Does My Office Need to Improve It?

  • “I can't hear my customers on the phone over the conversations of my colleagues.”
  • “Our conference room is not private enough. This is where we discuss private business deals and personal information.”
  • “I'm stressed because I can't concentrate hard enough to get my work done. I try but I'm so easily distracted by everyone around me.”

Then you need Office Soundproofing.

Noise Cuts Away at your Bottom Line

As you know, employee productivity is decreased by noise distraction, and it affects your bottom line. However, you may not realize how much of an affect it has. Often, improving acoustics with office soundproofing pays for itself by the increase in your company's productivity.

Companies come to us because they need a quieter work environment for their employees. Many of our customers need to reduce the noise created in the open floor plans and cubicles now popular in offices today.

While these floor plans may encourage interaction between colleagues and save space and money, they cause office soundproofing problems. And these problems cost you money.

What Office Soundproofing Can Do for You

By installing office soundproofing, you will:

  • Decrease distractions, which ultimately increases concentration and quality work
  • Make conversations clear, resulting in better communication between employees
  • Provide a better working environment so your company keeps good employees
  • Keep areas private, ensuring your business' confidential information is not at risk

Office Soundproofing and Sound Absorption...What's the Difference?

Sound is like water. It doesn't have a shape or form, but molds itself to its surroundings. And like water, sound can be absorbed by some materials and contained by others. Click here to learn more sound basics.

Office Sound Absorption Products soak up sound. They absorb sound waves and prevent them from bouncing back off the walls. They improve the sound quality of a space. Click here to learn more sound absorption basics

Office Soundproofing Products trap the sound. They contain the sound in one location, making it impossible for the sound to move from one space to another. Click here to learn more soundproofing basics.

How Do I Know which Type of Office Soundproofing I Need?

Here's an easy 2-step process to determine which you need:

Step 1: Identify WHAT noise you hear.

Is it someone's voice? It is noisy office equipment? Is it the traffic outside your window? There are typically many noise distractions in an office setting, so be sure to prioritize your list.

Step 1: Identify WHERE the noise is coming from.

Is the noise coming from inside the same space as you, or is it coming from a separate room? For instance, is it the voice of someone on the phone in the office across the hall? Is it the sound of the copier sitting next to you? If there's a construction element, such as a wall, that separates you from the noise, then it's not in the same space as you.

Sound absorption products help control the noise that's in the same space as you and increase the sound quality of that space.

Office soundproofing products stop sound from entering or exiting your space.

Most of the companies that come to us with sound problems need both office soundproofing and sound absorption materials.

Choosing the Right Product for Your Office Soundproofing Needs

Office Sound Absorption Products

Sound absorption materials stop noise from bouncing off the walls and back into the space. This means the noise from your officemate's typing won't echo throughout the room anymore.

The result? You have better concentration. You perform better work. Your company improves its bottom line.

To be able to compare the performance of different sound absorption products, we rate them by how much sound they can take in. This rating is called NRC, which stands for Noise Reduction Coefficient. Click here to learn more about NRC ratings.

Sound absorption products are typically mounted to a wall surface as an Acoustic Panel or hung from ceilings as an Acoustic Baffle.

Since the look of your office is essential to your company's brand, these products are a good fit because they can match any décor. They come in a variety of colors, shapes, and designs that can blend with or enhance the look of your office building.

Office Soundproofing Products

Office Soundproofing products trap sound. They keep sound in a desired location. This means the voices from the conference room don't travel to the office next to it. Or the sounds of the copier room don't distract employees in their offices.

The result? Sound is kept where it should be and your work isn't interrupted. The less interruptions, the higher the productivity.

There are four common approaches used to soundproof a Home Theater. The four ways are: adding mass, increasing or adding air space, decoupling or creating a structural break within the wall assembly, and adding sound absorption material within the wall/ceiling cavities. To be able to compare the performance of different office soundproofing products, we rate them by how much sound they can block. This rating is called STC, which stands for Sound Transmission Class. Click here to learn more about STC ratings.
